In the aftermath of Iran-backed militias killing three U.S. service members and wounding dozens at a military base in northeast Jordan, the number of injured continues to rise.

By late Sunday, the count had reached 34 service members, including eight who needed to be evacuated for higher-level care. Thankfully, the evacuated personnel are in stable condition.

Rest assured, all service members are undergoing thorough evaluations for follow-on care, and the injury count is expected to fluctuate.

Most of the injuries involve traumatic brain injury, but more cases are likely to be reported as symptoms can take time to develop.

The militant groups targeted the logistics support base at Tower 22 of the Jordanian Defense Network, where approximately 350 U.S. Army and Air Force personnel are deployed to counter ISIS.

As per Defense Department policy and out of respect for their families, the identities of the service members will be withheld until 24 hours after their next of kin have been notified.

These fatalities represent a significant escalation following months of attacks by such groups against American forces across the Middle East during the Israel-Hamas war.

President Biden responded to the attacks, stating that the U.S. “shall respond” to them. In a written statement, Biden assured that the U.S. “will hold all those responsible to account at a time and in a manner (of) our choosing.”
