Excitement is brewing for the expected 2024 flagship TV debut using Sony’s new Mini LED technology. According to reports by What Hi-Fi?, Sony recently provided details on its groundbreaking technology at an event in Tokyo. The new backlight technology proposal has been kept under wraps until now, garnering even more attention and curiosity.
Sony’s latest 22-bit Mini LED driver, 10-bit current, and 12-bit Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) technology is touted to create even more dimming zones. The company is not revealing exactly how many zones this technology will offer, but has promised it will exceed the already impressive number of zones seen in the ZD9 or Z9D models - for context, the 65-inch model of this older TV has 646 zones. Comparing with the 2023 X95L Mini LED LCD TV, Sony indicated that its new model would be around 1.5 times brighter without significantly increasing the blooming or halo effect of the TV. This hints at a truly revolutionary leap in display technology.
Another highlight of the latest driver is the significant reduction in power consumption by 10-15% in standard settings or 30% in Eco mode compared to the X95L. This breakthrough in power efficiency could pave the way for more energy-conscious television technology.
While Sony is not expected to showcase any new models at CES 2024, enthusiasts can expect an official announcement later in the year. For now, details on the name of the new model using the Mini LED technology, its release date, and pricing remain shrouded in mystery.
