The Ironman middle distance race in the Middle East wrapped up with exceptional performances from six athletes who secured their spots at the IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship in Taupo next season.
Marten Van Riel took home the victory in the men’s race with a standout performance at IRONMAN 70.3 Bahrain, securing the Middle East regional title. Henri Schoeman finished in a close second, followed by Britain’s Max Stapley, who clinched the third position with a stellar race.
On the women’s side, Kat Matthews of Bahrain Victorious ended her season with a significant win. Her teammate, Amelia Watkinson, secured the runner-up spot with Caroline Pohle taking third place.
In the men’s race, the stacked start list featured short course swim stars and formidable long-course professionals. It was no surprise when a sizeable front group came into transition in Bahrain, with Marten Van Riel powering ahead to finish the season on a high note.
The women’s race had its share of exhilarating moments, culminating in a triumph for Kat Matthews as she closed out her 2023 season on a high note.
