The Ongoing Conflict: Russia-Ukraine War Update
As the deadliest conflict in Europe since World War II enters its third year, the toll of the Russia-Ukraine war continues to rise. With tens of thousands of soldiers killed, thousands of civilians dead, and millions of Ukrainians displaced from their homes, the devastation is undeniable.
Despite the staggering losses, there seems to be no resolution in sight. Russian President Vladimir Putin remains unwavering in his stance, insisting that peace will only come when Russia’s objectives are achieved. On the other hand, Ukraine is scrambling for more resources, appealing for additional aid to replenish dwindling ammunition supplies.
While the European Union recently pledged a substantial $54 billion package, the United States Congress is at a standstill over their level of support. The upcoming election year in the US has led to disagreements among Republicans regarding extending military assistance to Ukraine, potentially increasing strain on NATO.
With these challenges in mind, the crucial question arises: is victory attainable in the Russia-Ukraine conflict? Who stands to gain from the prolonged warfare? And what could be Putin’s next target?
